18th International Children’s Film Festival

The 18th International Children’s Film Festival will take place in Hydarabad from November 14 to 20

The state government is making fool-proof arrangements for the 18th International Children’s Film Festival.

Hyderabad hosted the Children’s Film Festival (9th) for first time in 1995. After that the central government declared Hyderabad as the permanent venue for holding International Children’s Film Festival to be held from November 14 to 20 once in two years.

Information and broadcasting secretary Bimal Julka chaired a review meeting to oversee the arrangements for the event.

Speaking to mediapersons later, he said that the objective of the festival was to source films which had been either screened or received as entries at around 20 prestigious film festivals across the globe including.

The 18th edition of the Film Festival has received 848 entries from around 72 countries. Around 100 foreign delegates would also be participating in the film festival. Arrangements were also being made at the festival to screen films specially for children with special needs, Julka added.

State chief secretary PK Mohanty said that around 10 to 12 theatres were short-listed for screening films. Imax will be the main festival venue and the opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Lalitha Kala Thoranam in the Public Gardens at Nampally.

Around 1.50 lakh school children are expected to participate in the festival. Children’s Film Socity of India CEO M Shravan Kumar said that for the first time in the film festival there were 28 entries from South America. Various committees to oversee hospitality, guest relations, theatres, transport, cultural programmes and media relations were being constituted.

Workshops will be organised in this week-long festival on animation, script-writing and film appreciation. Cultural programmes will be held and one or two child prodigies will be felicitated at Lalitha Kala Thoranam. The Golden Elephant and cash prizes will be awarded for the best films selected on the last day.
